Highway Kindness
Anyone driving on the highways, even for a short time, understand the connection between Kindness and highway fatalities? Two-thirds of all traffic fatalities are caused by aggressive drivers, and more than a third of aggressive driving incidents involve a firearm. Speeding down the highway in a metal cage weighing 3000 lbs and up and going 70 mph can be stressful enough. But when you throw in angry drivers, many of whom are armed, we can understand why it’s a potential problem waiting to happen!
Why Are Drivers So Angry?
There are numerous reasons. We live in a high-pressure world where time constraints add even more pressure. Get in a car after a stressful day and find yourself late for something you needed or wanted to do, and rage happens.
Even though you might not be an angry driver, it's possible you're still contributing to the problem by angering others. Some things that contribute to road rage:
The solution is to demonstrate kindness toward other drivers. This is more than a pleasant smile and a friendly wave. It might be inconvenient, but stay off your phone while driving. Take other drivers into consideration when turning and changing lanes. On crowded highways, allow other drivers to get in front of you. These are simple common courtesies that most of us demonstrate when outside of our vehicle. But more importantly you don't know who is at the breaking point. Don't be the straw the breaks the camels back, Stay focused, humble and kind! |
Road rage is a real problem. Recently a 40 year old Marine, on his way to work, got distracted and cut off a 22 year old man. The Marine got out of his car to apologize, They both had permits to carry firearms. The 22 year old started shooting, the Marine returned fire and they were both killed. Please drive with caution and kindness. People are stressed and some are ready to snap. Be part of the Kindness Solution, not part of the problem.

The first person killed by an automobile accident was Bridget Driscoll, killed on August 17, 1896, by a motorized carriage moving at 4 mph (6.4 km/h).
A Motorized vehicles were a new thing in 1896 and people were unfamiliar with their operation. The driver of the carriage was giving demonstration rides on the grounds of Crystal Palace in London, England. The unusual sight of the carriage with a strange sound confused Mrs. Driscoll, and she lost her balance and fell in the wrong place. While on the ground, the carriage rolled over her head, killing her instantly. That was the start of a terrible trend.
The number of people killed in vehicle accidents since that time is larger than the number of people killed in World Wars, and the number increases every day. In fact, in the U.S., every 12 minutes someone is killed in a car accident, and another 2.5 million are seriously injured. A lapse of a few seconds can create a dangerous, life-threatening situation. We are taught this from the time we get our first license, yet it’s still surprising how many people don’t pay attention. A Reminder to drive safely, don’t text and drive or drink alcohol...and one more thing: Be Kind on the Highway! |
According to World Health Organization, (WHO) 1.25 million people yearly are killed globally and an additional 20 to 50 million are injured or disabled.
In the US alone, over 30,000 are killed and 2.5 million injured or disabled yearly, It's been reported that 94% of all car accidents are caused by human error. This Can Only Be Described as horrific carnage!
Along with admonitions to drive safely, it would also be beneficial to remind people to drive kindly. This is one area where being aggressively kind can be a good thing. Be aggressive when it comes to showing kindness when on the road—it can save lives; perhaps even your own. |

The Mission: Get Where You're Going Safely
Sargent Brian Murphy, a former Delaware state trooper warned, "Every time someone gets into a car, it's like putting a loaded gun in their hand." Cars are essential for people in most parts of the country, and obviously, when appropriately used, they sever a valuable purpose. However, if used improperly, a vehicle can become a weapon of death and destruction.
All of us are encouraged to promise that when we get behind the wheel of your vehicle, we will be Kind, obey the laws, and use our vehicles correctly and safely; and vow not to leave grieving family members who will never see us again or recover from pur loss. Fatality numbers suggest that highways have become battlefields and vehicles weapons of destruction. DRIVE TO ARRIVE ALIVE! . |

First mission objective, make sure you're in control of your vehicular weapon and it's safe to drive. Like soldiers keep their vehicles well maitained and ready to use, we all must make sure our vehicles are safe to drive. Most important are good tires, brakes and oil levels. Many people get killed when their vehicles break down on the highway and they're hit and killed by other vehicles while on the side of the road.
Second mission objective, drive defensively, always be on the alert, vigilant, kind and ON MISSION to ARRIVE ALIVE at your final destination. Always be on the lookout for vehicular weapons that could kill you. Green lights and stop signs won't save you when a vehicular weapon blows through them and crashes into you. It only takes seconds of distraction to become a statistic. Please watch the video of drivers caught texting, and on their phone and acting like they were siting in their living room watching TV
