You-Kindness
Presented by Kindness Works International Foundation (KWI)
Kindness Works International Foundation (KWI) is driven by our vision and shaped by our story. Our goal is to raise awareness about the importance of kindness and how it can become a key agent for change. Everyone would agree that a simple smile, a thank you, holding a door open, or some other simple gesture of kindness creates good feelings and a more civilized world. Recently, a person wrote about seeing a car with a low front tire, and they decided to approach and alert the driver. With a big smile, the driver said, "thank you." Kindness creates smiles. Although they may be little things, kind acts lead to bigger and better things!

There are many kind people in our world, and you will see some on the videos on this website. However, our society and world seem to more divided than ever before. Neighbor against neighbor, road rage, and violence at all levels. We see constant examples of this in our daily lives and on TV.
Change starts with YOU, therefore the name You Kindness. Many things are beyond our control, but showing daily kindness to others is not one of them. If millions would engage in daily Acts of Kindness, it could make a big difference. Psychiatrist and author Dr. Brian Weiss explains that, “Kindness and caring cannot be reserved only for our families and friends. Otherwise, society will not change at all. Strangers must approach strangers, we need to reach out to all others, not merely those like us. If we could get everyone to perform a few acts of kindness each day, we could change the world.”
Dr. Weiss's statement sums up the vision and mission for Kindness Works frequently illustrated throughout this website. The videos capture the vision and values of KWI and hopefully will encourage you to join the Kindness movement!
What do we want from you? First, be kind to yourself since you live 24/7 with YOU. Second, engage in daily Acts of Kindness. An Act of Kindness can be a thousand different things, depending on the need of the moment. Third, support Kindness Works and together we can make a difference. Following will be some suggestions to help you get started making more conscious decisions to carry out daily Acts of Kindness. After a short time you will find kind acts become easier and more enjoyable as you see more and more smiles.

Our Mission and Vision
Kindness starts within our hearts and minds. It starts with you and me. That’s why we call it “You-Kindness.” It typically begins with a single thought, so think KINDNESS, and then just do it. Because of the stress of everyday life, it can be difficult. But remember what Dr. Weiss said, "If we could get everyone to perform a few acts of kindness each day, we could change the world.”
The purpose of Kindness Works is to convey the simple message that KINDNESS WORKS. Just as light displaces darkness, Kindness displaces violence. A simple smile speaks loudly and creates more smiles, which will be replicated and passed on.
This vital message needs to be part of teaching curriculums in our schools. Companies should also think about making Kindness part of their training programs. Why? It's good for people, and it's good for business. Visionary companies can lead by creating Kindness programs for their employees, the employee’s children, and for communities where they do business. Kindness is one thing that everyone can agree with and rally behind. Even the Government can invest in Kindness. See the story below.
There is no doubt that KINDNESS WORKS and our vision and mission is to get that message out across the country and around the globe to start ripples and then waves of Kindness that change the World!
Our Kindness Pays Rewards Program is a vital part of Kindness Works. Everyone is familiar with rewards programs, why not one for Kindness. It's about recognizing and rewarding Acts of Kindness throughout the Country. Read about that program below on our Kind News and Kindness Pays Pages. KINDNESS WORKS, and now it ALSO PAYS in more ways than one! Become part of the Kindness Movement and let's change our world!

Kindness Pays "Rewards" Program
Kindness Pays "Rewards" Program was created to recognize and reward Acts of Kindness (AOK). Every month, individuals and groups will be selected from around the country who performed Acts of Kindness. The selections will come from news media stories and other sources. Checks will be mailed out, or personally delivered to the recipients. The results will be published on our website, in the news media and in press releases to encourage others to PASS ON the Renewable Resource of Kindness!
What can you do? Carry out and support Acts of Kindness Programs
and help Change our World one Kind Act at a Time!

Below is an example of our Kindness Pays Reward program. We Plan to do this Monthly to recognize and Reward Acts of Kindness throughout the Country
Three New York Police Officers July 4th Act of Kindness
Three NYPD officers, Lt Sojo, Officer Rivera, and Office Cuevas were at a Manhattan Whole Foods getting lunch on July 4th when an employee phoned the police about a shoplifting incident. Since the officers were already at the store the three officers responded to the call. They discovered a woman being detained by security. She had a bag of food she didn't pay for. In a spontaneous gesture, the officers responded, not with force, but with Kindness.
Officer Esnaidy Cuevas described the incident: “We looked in her bag and saw containers of food; we didn’t see anything else; it was just necessity food.”
Lt. Louis Sojo added, “I asked her, ‘What’s going on?’ She told me she was hungry. We decided that we’ll pay the $35 for the food instead of arresting her. The officers went to the check out with the women and paid for the food."
“When you look at someone’s face and you notice that they need you, they're actually hungry, it’s pretty difficult as a human being to walk away from something like that— we weren’t raised like that, it’s the right thing to do,” Sojo said.
We agree with Lt. Sojo, and as part of "Kindness Pays Rewards Program," we think the right thing to do is to recognize and reward their Act of Kindness. We are sending a check to these police officers to reimburse them for the food they purchased, adding a little bonus, and sending them three decks of Kind Cards. At a time when police are quick to be criticized, KWI thinks officers, and others, should be recognized, praised, and rewarded for their kind acts. Kindness is contagious and will be passed on, as demonstrated by our response to their Act! See more stories like this on the Kind News and Kindness Pay Pages.
